In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, William Smyth expresses his approval of Phelpśs article on the Liberator and his view on the women question. He suggests Phelps distance himself from Garrison and his associates. Reporting on the ongoing antislavery activities and progress made in his vicinity, Smyth says Codding is a fine lecturer but is sympathetic to Garrison. He expresses his apprehension for potential collisions with Codding in managing a paper (presumably The Advocate of Freedom)
